Building coop soon.

[The cheek coop]

I will be building our coop soon and would love to see your DIY coops. My plans are 12’x8’ enclosed run with a 4’x8’ hen house. I’m doing a mono pitch roof with the front being 8’ tall and the back being 6’ or 7’ ( I haven’t decided yet) I’m using reclaimed wood and hardware cloth.

How many birds do you plan on having?
4x8 is kinda small width wise, maybe go 8x8?

We have 6 hens. We live in FDA zone 6b.

You want the fiery winds to be hitting the roof, so set it up so the wind will be at the back of the coop.

The biggest thing is to build your coop with predator proofing and proper ventilation already thought out. It's a PITA to modify areas you already built to accommodate those two important things.

Do your homework now, and it'll save you time and probably a little money down the road.
