Hello Fellow BYCers!
I work at a feed store and have been selling chicks for nearly 10 years, but this year is the first time I have ever ventured into chicken ownership (Side note: I am loving it!). Although I could recite everything you needed to know about brooding chicks, I knew nothing about chicken coop requirements until I started researching how to build one here on BYC. I was pretty clueless about required space, nesting boxes, predator proctection and roosting poles, etc.
I know I am just one of many new chicken owners in our area and I started thinking that our feed store should host a (totally free) seminar/round table on building chicken coops... everything you need to know to move out of the brooder! Our store (the Grange, in Issaquah) doesn't sell much in the way of building materials but I think this could be a really informative and fun experience for the new chicken owners in our area. I know I would have been lost without BYCers help and I would love to pass this knowledge on to others.
So, here is my question/thought: Is there anybody on BYC who would like to participate/attend this sort of meeting? I think even just getting a group of chicken lovers together to discuss what they have learned, what works for them and helpful tricks to make raising chickens that much more fun.
I hope this is the right area to place this (although I am sure a moderator will move it to the correct place). If anybody has any interest in joining in on this...or just any suggestions of other topics to cover, please feel free to contact me. I really look forward to hearing from you.
