The roof is done!!!!!!!!!!!!
:wee
Phew. Missed dinner with the kids to finish it, but I beat the sun. It’s gonna rain tomorrow so I had to finish it.

That was FUN!

I have to say, shopping alone at Home Depot, especially for “serious” things like roofing materials, has been interesting. I get a lot of looks and questions, and doubts. Oh well.

Just being female makes that always an adventure...even harder until you know the language(but really fun once you know more than they do ), even then need thick skin. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.

I can imagine some of the questions/comments . Now that you've got the roof under your belt what's up next for your coop ?
Yeah, doesn’t help that I’m also a petite 5’2” and not the construction “type”, but I can lift and carry the 65lbs bundles of shingles no problem.

Next up I’ve gotta clean up and repaint that old door, then make a chicken door and close up the coop. Then trim and hardware cloth. I’ll wait for the roosts, nest boxes and ramp until next year, since we won’t have chickens in there until the spring. Until then, I want the inside open and empty so the kids can use it as a playhouse We’ll bring in chairs, a table, curtains.

I need to decide whether to build the run now or next spring. Our springs are very rainy so I should probably do it now... I’ve just been using all of my time building and need a break.

Yep, female, small and looking younger than my age so they treat me like some kid, too. But it doesn't stop me. Surprising them is fun! And it gives me hope that my kids see me build things and now think that moms can build things too. There's hope for the future.

Definitely good for your kids future!
You'll have to teach your girls how to handle the gender bigotry ;)
I had hard time learning that, then got good at it, now facing more again due to being an 'old' woman.

We’ll bring in chairs, a table, curtains.
Sounds like the perfect scenario to plan those other chicken things!
