Building my first coop/run

It looks awesome!! It’s so exciting!!

Thanks. Goal tomorrow is to get the roof on. That should be relatively easy.

I have to work most of the day, but I do IT support and it should be a quiet day so as long as I check in with my team every hour or so I can keep working. So my goal is to put the roof on, then start ripping down plywood for the shiplap. I'll do maybe 5 sheets at a time then go nail it up.

I bought a 18 gauge stapler / brad gun at Harbor Freight. With the staples it made putting up the hardware cloth really fast. It should make doing the shiplap pretty easy too.

Once thats on, I'll get the pressure washer out and clean it, since the plywood I got is used (it was pallet tops). Then @juhesihcaa can start painting. We picked up a gallon of oil based barn paint today.

I can't wait to see more pictures! I love seeing coop builds

Why is there HC over the wood siding?

Because I've been told that OSB will not keep a determined racoon out and they can dig right through it.

And thats just the underlayment. I'll be doing shiplap over that. I bought 40 1/4" thick 4'x4' sheets of plywood from a guy on facebook marketplace. I'm going to rip them into planks that I'll then side the whole thing with.

Here's a little demo of what 3 of them look like I put up after I got home with them the other night.

It is going to be really pretty

Thanks!

We decided today on gray paint. @juhesihcaa wanted green but Rural King didn't have any in the store brand and I didn't to pay double to go with name brand.

Red was ruled out because the building behind it is red and she didn't want it to clash. Black too hot. Roof is white so that was a no go.

So we went with gray.
