Follow along and help us design our dream coop! We are new to this and I have been gathering info and we are excited with the ideas we have for it! Our 8 chicks are ordered and will hatch 5/9 with delivery between 5/10-5/11. The first picture here we are excited because the snow has finally melted in NH and we can start preparing our site. We decided that we wanted a privacy fence near our coop so we began with that - we were really excited to get so much done in one day!
and then Mother nature decided that we should not work on our coop just yet and gave us an April fool's joke that blanketed our work site with 4 inches of snow.
The last three pictures are from work completed TODAY by my hubby! Our coop design will be an 8x8 coop with an 8x16 enclosed run. The coop will be 2 ft off the ground and the entire structure will have a roof to keep the snow out and hopefully the chickens will want to go outside during our cold New England winters. We have two windows and will have a full size people door. The inside coop height will be just over 6 feet but we are not sure if we will have inside nest boxes or built out ones. We will have electricity and water for our coop!
A lot of work on the structure today - the pressure treated posts are dug down two feet. The 2x4's that are in place right now are just to keep the structure square until the roof is complete. Follow along with our progress - I am sure we will need suggestions when we get down to the nitty gritty.
