building paradise for the birds

I know I'm way late, and you may already have the answer, but I used rabbit cage J clamp (with a J clamp pliers) to join my sections of hardware cloth to each other and to the 2x4 fencing I'm also using. It wasn't easy, but they work just fine, and I haven't had any rust from them, where some of my other hardware on the coop itself has rusted and will need to be replaced.

I got a bag of clamps that I didn't put a dent in (I have a small run) and I bought the mid-range pliers.
i have the same j clamps i bought to build small carrying cages with....but there not big enough to join the cattle panels with the hardware cloth...so i just used the handy zip ties....and went thru hundred of them so far...hopefully my cloth wont rust most of the coop is covered.....

UPDATE....been really busy....here are some pics
somebody said cemani...but this is not a cemani...but looks real close to one thats for sure....weird huh...there are look alikes...asian chickens look exactly like them...

ok it didnt go in order i put it to...so oh well..you can see she was very healthy...you can see the yellow stuff...that is the fat...so she was fed well for sure...healthy looking insides...took apart the wind pipe and no worms, took the stomach apart and no worms, you can see the orange balls in the center those are developing eggs, and they are fertile, heart was in good shape....alittle fat around it but normal....
.
you can see no damage by the male...normally would see bald spot with blood on the head and back..feathers in good condition

close up of head..no trauma

the backside of her...i believe she had the rubber egg explode in her..and she passed it...and you can see that is not normal....i believe it was a combination of the rubber egg and the female picking at her back side when she would lay an egg...i put more brush in their so they could lay with out being bothered...moral of that story is more cover is better then less....

you can see her back end looks like it was picked at and you can see all the fat she had....very nice bird...bummer i spent a good amount on her to get imported and out of the two females this one was the one i liked the most...bummer

well hope this was informative and sorry for the graphic pics but you gotta learn for the expansion of your flock and you need to learn about the things that go wrong...and you have to expect that things will randomly just happen...for example yesterday i seen a chick getting picked on...so i went in the coop and picked her up and noticed a black string stuck around her tongue....so i got a cutter and was trying to cut it off and then she died...right in our hands....bummer...but things do just happen....well off to the coop i go

Not sure if you can do it on a phone, but on laptop you can cut and paste the pics in the order you want after the are inserted.

Sorry about your hen.
just a good rule of thumb....always expect to loose something during the season of breeding...and entering their pens, and virtually anything else...last season...i went to a guys house to get some birds...and he went into the coop and an expensive bird flew up and broke its neck just like that...and he was like...well that will happened and then just walked away...so i just have to learn from it and make sure something like this can be avoided the following season...well in the a.m...i am going to be cutting more trees down and putting them into their pens...and going to be putting in nesting boxes at about four feet high...so this should help...going to be using the plastic milk crate things...hope i can buy a bunch...and just screw them to the posts with washers attached to them....and then fill with straw...that will delay any picking...i hope..and more shrubs will also make it easier on the girls...also i did notice that the second batch i put into the hatcher is still not all fertile...only the red goldens...are fertile....so going to be learning more on them cause i had such a great hatch rate and lockdown rate in the cold months...but now that it is hotter out...im getting more humidity in the incubator and the hatcher...and seems to be running warmer then in the colder months as well....so i will hatch this season...right down in log form how many hatch and the dates...and then put the next years batch in a climate controlled room...and then compare....also think it might have to do with the fact that most of the males are only one year olds....but was told they should produce the first year and be fertile...maybe i dont know how to check on the fertility of a pheasant egg...in the chicken egg its super easy...hmmmm...im going to watch a movie relax and think about this one...thanks for staying tuned..until tomorrow

morning everyone....got four hours a sleep and feeling tired....had many quail hatch and many pheasants...still no chickens...but i thought i would share something to the viewers....not sure if anyone else is having problems with this site...but i dont really know what to do...but im kinda sick of having the mods send me messages saying follow the rules....so this is what happened yesterday well this morning at about 1/2 ish i posted in a guinea 101 section....this is what i posted...

i so need some guineas...as i have found atleast ten ticks on me in the last two days...being out in the forest and all....this place is coated with them...i need pest control....what do i hear...guineas....calling...maybe real fast.....anyone from michigan have any....?
first off i wasnt trying to buy any cause i dont have the pen space, secondly i was simply making small talk regarding the ticks in a joking manner....and lastly i was just trying to see if anyone from michigan have any....first reason being....most people on here illegally import and export with no forms (vs9-3) across state lines...i know plenty of them (like your thread on auctions, and bin thread....)(you have people that are buying selling and trading all over your site(so whats that all about)....shall i start throwing names under the bus...well im no snitch....secondly theres no section to be able to purchase from a specific state, so i was curious to see if anyone had any in michigan....lastly what are you (byc) worried about breaking some stupid rule that the sponsors made up....when you (byc) should be worried about the many laws you are letting people break....when they are buying and selling birds thru you (byc) and you dont moderate the paperwork to make sure they import export birds thru you legally....so leave me alone....im not trying to break any of your stupid rules and people think i have helped them in many ways...otherwise i wouldnt be in the top .05....if i keep getting these stupid messages i wont educate, and help people from your site, inspire people...ill flat out dissapear from your site...its really crappy to wake up to a message saying this...and then you delete my post from the guniea 101 section...please do tell me what the heck is so wrong with what i posted....and lastly you know how much time i have wasted sitting on here ....when i could be building my coops and living my life...without byc...so please leave me alone so i can still be apart of your website helping people, learning....and stop sending me these stupid messages. and if you delete this....ill repost and repost....until you kick me off....so leave it on my forum and leave me alone.....sorry viewers for posting this......but i think this is ridiculous...have a nice day to you byc...thanks for starting my out great

I know you are really trying to help other BYCers with your posts. I know there are rules for a reason, but then again, "they" need to see what you are doing and not jump on you for everything. If you can't ask questions in a general discussion without them jumping on you and yelling foul, well, I can see your frustration. You do a good service here, and they need to see that. It would be really sad if you left BYC because you have quite a following. It reminds me of a house we found that we really like, but the neighborhood is run by HOA. So many senseless rules to follow! I hope the moderators see that you are better on than kicked off.

thanks...i try and make it informative and well as post as many pics as i can cause people have to learn and some are more visual then others....and i know sometimes...i might get into it with someone about birds...but that is human nature...your on the michigan thread and im sure you seen what im talking about...but for the most part im chill, peaceful....only somethings get me argumentative...so to speak....i dont think i did anything wrong...and i was just trying to see any local people so i could one...see the birds...and to ask many questions...as some birds dont do well in warmer/colder climates...anyways....going out to work...be back later

well just got a bunch of brooders ready...here are some pics of the new babies....also learned to not use papertowel for the lighter birds in the hatcher...chickens paper towels were great ....so next batch im going to use the grip stuff you line cupboards with...learning experience...but its way better and cleaner for the hatcher to use something underneath....for sure....well here are some pics
well found this blonde morel mushroom in my yard...

back end of the purple peacock...going to be working on their coop very soon...

how i sectioned off the different pheasant coops

close up of the back end of the male peacock

my very first red goldens...wow they are so pretty...no more paper towel...took everything off and they seem to be doing better

quail as well....jumbo browns...but as you can see there is some in there...that are not browns....hummmmm....

false advertising i guess...i might just sell these....(now byc im not trying to sell them on here...no need to send me some stupid message)

well that is whats going on the farm...see you soon....thanks for watching
