building paradise for the birds

Hang in there @birdman55 . I've been one of your followers and you have a talent raising select breed birds. I 100% understand family issues. I have had to cut ties with much of my family due to various personal issues. It's not easy to tell your so called family to take a hike, but sometimes it's for the best. People say you can't choose your family, I say "WHY NOT! I DID!" Not saying this is your solution, because your circumstances are obviously different. You have to do what is right for you and your chosen family.

well good news i got over a hundred of my ornamentals back and into their new homes...32 of them are males and are being raised in a separate pen...and all the rest are females...so far...and still more in the brooder...quails are hatching yet again...the lady amherst male is starting to get his colors in...be back with some pics...thanks for the uplifting comments it does help...and not sure if i mentioned this or not...but a tree fell on the front part of one of my cars....yeah for me right...looks like that ones going to the scrap yard...it has surely been a journey thats for sure...and im glad i get to share it....have a great day everyone...got to eat some quail yesterday as well...was a good dinner...then i had a fire...was nice and quiet for a change....going to be butchering about 30 chickens...and then will be down to what i would like to keep...anyways the pens are crowded with pheasants now...and i had 3 escapees...which one i caught the others are in the forest

well all is better health wise...however they come in threes....after i got better i ended up flipping a four wheeler...the one guy broke his leg and i was hurt pretty bad..no broken bones...so thats a good thing...anyways....i got back about 50 ornamentals...and they are looking great....got rid of 300 quail and about 10 ornamental pheasants along with about 20 other pheasants, pretty much all my polish and gave away some ornamentals...still downsizing..however still so many birds its crazy...anyways been busy..was hurt for about four days with the roll over but now better...its been so crazy here...my dog made a meal out of one of my svarts and one of my cemani.....bummer...i guess thats an easy way how to downsize...and one problem with teaching dogs things...anyways hope all is well...i should be out of this area within two weeks....so well see what happens...
Flipping four-wheelers really suck. Ive got my leg pinned under my dirt bike before, and its not fun. Glad youre kind of feeling better. :)

Thank goodness you didn't get hurt more in that accident! Geez, that's scary stuff!

I was wondering how you housed your peafowl during the winter (did you heat them, where they kept in an enclosed coop or just pen). Last week, a year-old peacock adopted me as its owner & I have no idea how to shelter him. I haven't even had my chickens for a year & don't feel like I'm doing good by them most of the time. Through a peacock on there & I'm super clueless. I know that your area probably has similar winters to mine, so I thought I might pick your brain (if you didn't mind). Right now, it's good for him because he spends the days with the chickens & roosts on top of their pen at night since its dry & mild in my area of CO. Winter will be a different story. :)

Thought of you yesterday, saw some black sex link pullets with black combs, wattles, faces...wondered if they would use fibros for layer crosses.
They had some red tones but very, very dark...weird.

How's the progress going with your ornamentals and fibros? Everything returning to some level of normalcy?

And Uzi I believe he was keeping them in his greenhouses. I feel like its in the posts somewhere but there are so many pages. Lol.

Thanks, Attimus. I have issues with my memory & attention due to a traumatic brain injury, so that's why I asked. :)

I am still waiting to hear about the peafowl. You mentioned I could buy the india blue white eye hen but still havent heard back on when could get her or anything...

in the greenhouses....with peafowl and any other type of bird you wanna keep them away from chickens....chicken often carry and drop alot of bad stuff..ie diseases...my chickens dont have access to the pheasants or peafowl...you can make a heated roost for the peafowl you will just have to put a temp gauge so it turns on and off...so it dont get to hot....i didnt do this and i have two peafowl that are missing toes now

the ornamentals are doing good...got rid of like 30 of them....the males are peeped and in one pen and the females are getting peeped today and put into the other....thats the only way to go...alot of people dont like to peep them...but some will be aggressive and kill the birds...so they have to be peeped all of them...that is what i have learned...keeps them alot nicer to the birds...cause if you add to their flock they will pick and kill the birds...

well on a different note i did go to the hospital yesterday...all is good they gave me some pills...imagine that...and they didnt do any testing...gotta love the man...
anyways was going to post some pics but the tablet is in a different city right now bummer...i was getting so eggsited...we also hatched yet another 95 quail....and found four peacock eggs in the india blue pen...weird....

the fibros...going to be building some individual pens for the three breeds....so they can get used to one another cause they should start breeding before winter...
see you guys in a bit
