building paradise for the birds

If you don't know me let me introduce myself. I am the other half of birdman55. I came home from work one day and he told me he wanted a "golden cock." I had to ask him to repeat himself and when he showed me a picture i was like "oh, a bird." I am not a fan of birds they have claws and wings and beaks and they fly. But I told him if its something he wanted to do i will support him in any way i can. I have paced along on his journey for building a paradise for his birds. He appreciates everyone's kind word, every piece of advice, and mostly every friendship he has made on here. I could see that it brought him happiness and i thank everyone who have taken this journey with us. I will keep pacing along and I'm hoping you all can teach me as well as you've taught him.

Update on the farm: 10 pheasant eggs in the hatcher ready to hatch any day now. (Pulls out brown paper bag and starts breathing heavily into it.) Wish me luck for birdman is not here to guide me.

Welcome!

Well after moping around yesterday, I'm up and ready to face the day. Looked in the hatcher and it's official our first phesant chick has hatch. It is a cinnamon golden, gosh i forget just how small they are. We've decided that our first batch was to hatch cinnamon goldens, lady Amherst, silver goldens, and peach, since those where the ones we really needed. Will post up pictures once they've all hatched.

Can't wait to see pics.

:frow   I don't post much, but try to read along here.  His journey has been inspirational.  Nice that you are continuing, and I'm sure everyone here will be there for you!

Was going to ask if any of those eggs hatched.  So you only got 3?

X2 to the above for sure, and ya only 3 and of them only one was from the incubator. I happened to toss several hona eggs under a broody, and got the other two from her.
I had some humidity issues at the end and a huge temp drop mid development for longer than was OK. Working the kinks out now and tossing some of my own eggs in soon to see how much shipping effected things or if it's just me.

Haha every time I'd talk with Chris he'd always try and get me to take the pheasant eggs, they really are striking birds. But that's a whole nother level of bird keeping I'd have to build stuff for

. Kudos on the hatch and Keep it up.

It's been a hot, humid day, even the breeze was hot. Had to plug in fans for the two green houses since the fibros were panting. But don't worry i made sure they had enough water to keep them hydrated.

As for the hatching, ended up with three cinnamon goldens and two lady Amherst. Its kinda low but the first hatch usually is. Decided to build a smaller brooder and that was no joke. Props to all the fellow builders out there. Trust me i utterly miss birdman 55, guess i should've paid more attention in wood shop.

The eviction notice has been noted. The two California hmongs that we revived decided to finally come out to explore. Yeah i was oh so happy, but it didn't last long once it started to rain they headed back inside.

One of the cinnamon looked liked it was having a hard time moving around and upon examining, i notice that it had something wrapped around is leg. I've never seen any thing like it. I don't really know what it is or if i should cut it off. Kinda looks like part of his innards didn't get stuffed in and now it's wrapped around its leg.

I had quite the challenge getting them out of the hatcher. Kinda stood there watching them for a bit but boy oh boy are they fast. Zoom, zoom, zoom.

So this will be home for a while until they learn how to fly. Hopefully i will figure something out before then. :/

Looks like part of the umbilicus tissue..... you should be able to snip it close to the leg then let it dry up.
Corn starch can work a blood stop if it bleeds excessively....might not bleed at all
