building paradise for the birds

Spent some time with the birds yesterday and got some pics to bad I cannot share them yet. When it will let me post again I shall. Weird thing second hatch that has hatched 3-5 days early. Not sure what's going on but decided to only hatch the cemani eggs but right now they are not laying. The reeves females are not going into their coops at night and I think they have a cold now. There is something wrong with their eyes. Swollen and looks puffy n crusty. Any ideas...I would love to say I wanna fix them however feeding them is like going to war every morning. I gotta have my shield my poker stick water n feed all with me. Just to survive so in my mind it's survival of the fittest. They are in the elements all day. anyways I shall see u guys or type at u later

Well we hatched some more n only one more hatch left till we're done hatching eggs. The picture of the egg is because someone said that u did have pure cemani unless the eggs had black dots in them. I think that is not true but here is one with dots. Lol. I was able to clean out the free range coop and gets some pics of the black and the white. So cool to see in person I cannot explain how weird it is to see this site of all black birds on snow. Anyways moved four brooders n cleaned them out n then refilled them with chicks. Next batch is 75 birds. Go out with a bang huh. Lol. Or a cluck.
Tomorrow my female dog goes in for surgery. And I have a lot to do. Will be back with more pics. Pheasants are lady Amherst, red and yellow golden. Oh yeah my one female reeves died like I predicted.

Well today was a waste. Busy all day. Didn't get done anything I wanted to. But I got my female ryah back from surgery. She got seven tumors removed from what I found out that they are not cancer. They are spreading very aggressively tho. She still has a lot on her as some of u have seen or know by now. The biggest one was about the size of a base ball. She's been thru a lot poor girl. Hope tomorrow is better. Builder is coming back up in January sometime to do more work. I can't wait that long. So I'm going to do as much as I can. The goal is to finish all my plans so when the snow leaves I can make that pond. We'll see.

Figured I would share but what are people's thoughts of the egg with black dots. I have a guy from penn state university agreeing with me that it is mold or bacteria of some sort and others on here (byc) are disagreeing. Also here is a random pic from yesterday. I'm also taking off from byc for a bit. Irritated from people being naive and acting like there perfect.

Svart hona rooster. Remember when ur having a bad day. Just look at this pic and know that it's like zero degrees out n he looks like that. He is having a rough day. And today I feel like how he looks. Rough

Birdman I love your pics. Many nice looking birds. I think the pheasants are lovely. I agree with your comment about the BYC members that are so opinionated that their opinion is the only correct. Well different strokes for different folks. What works for one may not work for another. I see you have snow so do you use any kind of heat source. I live in Arkansas and don't get a lot of snow but some winters get very cold at least for a couple of weeks. I have never used heat but had a light for early mornings. I am toying with the idea again but don't want the extra expense.

Birds don't need a heat source. We get 45 below windchill. Keep them out of direct wind and you will be fine. Some need heat if that type of bird doesn't do well in the cold. But most will be fine. I have had birds loose wattles combs toenails toes from the cold weather. However u can see the rooster above. He's in my greenhouse and does fine. Even without heat with hardly any feathers. Rule of thumb. No cold wind with a wet bird. Everything else will fall into place if u follow this
Only reason to use light is to manipulate the bird ( hicken) into laying eggs again

Decided to go to the beach in my flip flops on this warm 30 degree sunny day. I should have put on sunscreen. Hahaha

Merry Christmas to you all.

You don't have to give away all of my secrets. OK, so what, I got a seat belt ticket!!! If I didn't have to deliver a truck to you, that would never have happened.

I see you do make a little time to play. Cute!!

My chickens and pheasants are doing great. Getting about 5 eggs a day from the girls so the cold Wisconsin weather is not bothering them yet. Their houses are both wrapped in plastic so they don't get the harsh winds. I open up their chicken door when the sun shines to go out into their 10 x 10 open area, they poke their heads out and go right back in.
