cant you just catch them and put them in a box yourself until they lay...a little less traumatic? or separate them one at a time in a different coop from the others?
Well, yes, if you only have a couple of chickens. I've already got 8 pens, each with 3-4 hens, and for the life of me, I can't tell the Millie eggs apart. That's not including the 40 girls in the layer coop. But, even though I work from home, I still don't have the time to watch them every minute of the day to figure out who's laying and who isn't. And trap nests are not traumatic at all.
well mostly i was thinking it would be quicker to catch them and house them in the coop in their cage (if that makes any sense)....but if ur trying to figure it out with over 40 thats crazy difficult lol.....i was thinking something like under 10 or 15 you were trying to figure out...
I've seen them made as normal boxes with a low lip at the entry and a swing down door hinged at the top of the entry and the door swung inward. It would simply be propped open with a stick that she would have to bump out of the way to go in. Of course, the box would have to be deep enough for her to go in past the swing of the door.
I hope that made sense 'cause I can't find the pic's anywhere. Uber simple though.
Hope it helps! If you need more info, lemme know and I'll try to communicate it better. Hehehehe
