Built a new coop

We built a larger coop for our 9 gals. with roost bars and a 4 hole egg laying box. They use the egg laying box but not the rest of the coop ? Our birds are free roaming and prefer to roost in our apple trees, The limbs are very low and even with clipped wings they hop up in the trees. We'll see how they do when the snow flies...Bob
 
If you want them to roost indoors shut them in for a few days so that they have to roost in there and they start to think of it as home. They are creature of habit so they will not change their routine unless they have to. Once they have slept in for a bit they will have a new routine and should stick to it. Some people say a whole week but I think 3 nights should do it.
 
You could hang a light in the coop at night that way they will head toward the light as it gets dark. The post above is how I do it on the coops that dont have power in.
