Built a Step Ladder Roost for Run

I’ve been wanting to build one of these for our run for some time. Finally got around to it with someone giving us some free Aspen logs.





Of course the girls are a little hesitant of something new in their space. I’m sure they’ll all be sitting on it tomorrow however



Plotting on making a log swing version next.

I really like that! I would have made it a bit wider, but it still is really nice. Now I gotta get my son to make one for our chickens!

I would have too, but the logs I was working with were only so wide.

If I ever do come across some wider logs, I can easily swap out and make it wider.

Dirt bath. It allows us to provide loose dirt for them to bathe in. Sometimes we’ll mix in some DE, sand or ash. It’s funny when all of them are in there swimming around like a pool party.

Why is the dirt bath under the roost? Won't it get poop (from the birds on the roost) in it? Will the chickens still use the dirt bath if someone is "sitting" above them?

I love logs as roosts! I found a tree branch and put it in my current coop and they prefer it to the ones that came with it.
