Chickens enjoying the north compost bin
West side of south bin showing opening that the wheelbarrows fit thru with a mulch ramp.
West side of the north bin. This is the one the hens are currently using. The angled bamboo pole in front wedges close that pallet. It can be easily opened and is wheelbarrow wide.
This is the connector pallet between the 2 bins showing it open so we can walk into the space between the bins and the shed wall. It is also wedged closed with a pole.
South side of south bin with yet another pallet door wedges closed for easy opening.
The pallet bins are only held together by a few screws and corner braces. Easily disassembled if needed.
One last pic of the hens enjoying themselves! You can see they’ve figured out they can fly up from the alley onto the top Of the bins. Ginger (not shown) walked the connector pallet top edge to the south bin, checked it out and then walked out the west door into freedom. These 2 on the top rail jumped across the owning onto the west side. They did not but could have jumped down to freedom from there.
Going to look into a removable top screen to stop this from happening. It’s not too big a deal as they’re currently only let into this area supervised and they come back in when I want them to.
Overall I’m Very pleased with this so far! We collected cow poop and that’ll Go in tomorrow as the activator for the north bin.
Oh and the shrimp heads and whatever either got eaten or buried or a combo.
