I have a week old Golden Layer duckling that appears to have a bulging or distended vent. I have not seen him/her poo in the bath and I'm worried!!! He/she is in the bath now and I hope that will work.

Also, the bird feels must thicker "full" almost than the Peking one of the same age.

Very lethargic and not making much noise.

Could I be freaking out and this just is how males look? I just flipped the duckling over and did the maneauver i read on how to sex them and i think it is a male.... pretty sure... I still have not seen it poo though,...

You mean you haven't seen it poo since you got it? What are you feeding? And you have to be extremely careful when vent sexing because they are so fragile at this age.

Feeding them non-medicated 17% protein feed. The duckling poo'd a little bit and i suppose its fair to say that I have just not actually WATCHED him poo. I was very careful with the vent sexing, I did read they are fragile.

The fuzz around the vent is not soft and dry; it is more crusty. The pics are bad, but thats the best I can get.

I* sure wish I had an answer for you. I have Storey's guide to raising ducks, I am going to look and see what I can come up with. I have ducks and have never seen this. Have you given them any shredded lettuce?

I have looked through the whole section on Health and Physical problems and haven't seen anything like whats in the picture and you have described. Is the duckling eating good and drinking good? Is the food your feeding starter/grower?

Eats and drinks okay, moves around less than the (i think female) peking duckling but still some. The crusty tail feathers bothers me.
