Can you train Geese not to be aggressive toward your dog? My dog is a 95 lb bulldog, and she is an angel with them. They peck and tug on her and she just lets them. She seems to want to socialize with them, even "giving paw" to them. Any tips how to make them friendly?

The pictures made me laugh. Are you sure they're being aggressive and not just curious? I know some people have geese that insist on grooming/preening the dogs.

I think they were being curious and testing her and when she hugged them a little excitedly they got aggressive.

I don't think you can train the geese to stay away from the dog. It will be far easier to train the dog to stay away from the geese.

Adolescent geese go through a phase of biting/tugging/picking incessantly. As they mature, that behavior dwindles way down to almost nothing. So the problem probably solves itself in time.

Africans can be aggressive.. Lol mine wait for the cat or dog to have their back turned and then grab tails.... Do watch them around feeding and breeding time... They are very picky about anything being around when they're eating or protecting their mate.

Geese van be trained, but not really to stay away from the dog . IMO, the best training would actually be for the dog ;) As long as your dog knows not to lunge or bite, then the geese will probably just play and "chase".... But geese establish dominance if the dog runs or acts scared. Calm dog, ignore the geese, should be fine :)

Side note, I hope you can handle the noise from Africans lol... Oh my they can be VERY loud! :D

Thanks! She is a very calm dog around the geese in general. Thank goodness! They are juveniles and only peck/tug on occasion.

My gander would pop my dog on the butt every time she walk by not aggressively just a pop, well one day the gander did it and the dog turned and grabbed him by the neck thank goodness she didn't bite down but it was more like a warning, After I got him an mate it got worse then I added 2 goslings last year, I had to start using a long pole to keep the geese away from the dogs when we're all out together. The geese just cannot seem to leave them alone. I never let the geese bite them now,When the geese come towards us with their necks stretched out I use the pole and stop them in heir tracks I just put it down in front of them. I read geese need to learn to respect those in pecking order above them that means us and family then the dogs etc.

The dog gave them a warning I would not let it happen again, last time my dog went after my gander he came to the door and knocked like he always did, I was at the computer when I heard this loud noise came running into the kitchen to find goose feathers all inside I just knew my dog had mortally wounded my gander what happened Sam the gander came to the door and my dog stuck her head through the dog door and grabbed his chest thankfully all she got was feathers. Needless to say the geese don't come into the back yard any more. this is the dogs territory .
