Bullied rooster!

hi,
I have 2 bielefelder roosters. The oldest one (Rocky) is the younger roosters dad. The younger rooster (Lawrance) is still basically cockerel (born in 2021 september) and I thought he would find his heream of hens but his dad just chances him around all day until they free range, then Lawrance can get away. I wanted to know if this is how it will always be or if he will ever stand up to his dad? Thanks!

I have 9 in the run with them.

Forgot, how big is your run?

You may not have enough hens for the both of them either. 3-5 is recommended per roo but it sounds like Rocky is not to keen on sharing and is very protective of them.

1 1/2 acres. I also have 12 chciks coming in a couple of days.

It's called "cockfighting" for a reason.

It's more likely for cockerels and roosters to NOT get along than for them to put up with each other.

10 hens per rooster is often recommended, but that has to do with fertility more than behavior. If you had 20 hens one male might still want all of them and not tolerate having the other around.

And there are still favorites. Some of mine look like there is no rooster around; others look like they're the only hen.

I have 21 hens and 2 roosters. 3 girls are bareback -- one quite severely so that I'm going to have to make her a saddle.

It's so weird none of my roosters choose favorites! (Not saying I want them to!!!)
