This chicken has taken to crowing. Not like the average person whould imagine a rooster crowing, but more like a "Ooooh-Ooooh" kind of sound. I can't ever seem to record her doing it, but there's supposedly a way to tell by the chicken's appearance. There are three (this one is one of them) who are lighter colored Barred Rocks, and they are all the same age - their combs and wattles look to be similar in size and shape. There are another three who are darker colored Barred Rocks who are 4-8 weeks younger than the first group of three, so comparing their combs and wattles to this crowing bird isn't helpful at all.
There's a tail feather that sticks up and curves, which makes me wonder if it's a rooster, but one of the others this age also has one, but doesn't crow. This one DOES seem to think s/he is the boss of all of them.
Neck and tail feathers, otherwise, seem exactly the same as all the others.
Picture below shows head-on shot. The wattles seem big, but I don't know if that's because the younger ones just don't have them significantly developed or not. The others this same again, seem to have similar size and shape wattles.
