Bully Hens!

so I have a new momma hen with three 3 week old chicks and I’ve separated them into a dog kennel from the rest of the flock. I’ve been letting them out to stretch their legs and wings but the rest of the flock peck at all of them. They pull feathers out from mom and peck at the chicks and separate them from the mom. I chase them away before anything bad happens but what do I do about it, is this supposed to happen?

Close the other chickens in there run and let the mama and chicks also get out for part of the day. It would be best to set up a cage where the hen and chicks could be seen but not touched. You may have to wait until the chicks are older to fully intigrate.

Thank you! Right now they’ve wandered into the run so I closed the gate so they can be safe while the other hens watch
