Bullying exacerbated after Blukote application

Our sweet hen, Henrietta, had a bald spot on her head that we were afraid would eventually be bloodied, so we dabbed it with Blu kote in hopes it would discourage pecking. Since then, the bullying has intensified and spread to the other hens bullying her. We've crated the top hen in the pen run, but it's so hot outside that she had a very tough time so I had to let her out to take a dust bath. Plus, another hen, who typically is very timid, has been running towards Henrietta and pecking her. Would blotting blukote on all their heads help at all? Vicks on henriettas back? How long does it take blukote to wear off? I wish we had never used it cuz it's been a pain!

What color is Henrietta?

I read just today that blue kote might work best for this purpose on darker bird because it makes the wound blend in, and might make the wound stand out more on lighter birds.

I have a splash colored hen ( so nearly white) that I’m dealing with peck issues on on right now...i put blue kote on her Sunday and isolated her... turned her back in with the flock today...

I’m not sure if it’s discouraging the pecking or not yet, but so far it doesn’t seem to be making things worse ...

I put the main wound picker in solitary confinement today... we’ll see how tomorrow goes.

What breed is Henrietta?
Do you have some photos of her?
How did she get the bald spot - rooster, hens pecking her, etc.?
How much space do you have in your coop and run (sq. ft.)?

Is she exhibiting any behavior that she may be sick? Bullying and pecking there usually is a reason. Are they just picking at the Blue Kote or are they full on attacking her?
If she is being attacked, you may want to place her in a cage where the others can see her so you can monitor her for a few days.

I am not a fan of bluekote. This is called pick no more and it is avaliable on amazon and it looks like it may be sold at walmart. One taste of this stuf and they wont take a second bite.

It helps to put the bird down while the bluekote is still moist so curious pecking results in a bad taste, otherwise it may attract more attention.

How big is your set up? Most pecking is from crowding, or not providing hiding spots for bottom birds.

Blu-kote is not a taste deterrent for Chickens. It's actually not even for poultry. People use it to mask the redness so Chickens won't peck. Although it seldom works.
Vaseline can be slathered on because Birds actually hate Vaseline..You can add cayenne pepper powder to the Vaseline because they hate that too..

Blu-kote is not a taste deterrent for Chickens. It's actually not even for poultry. People use it to mask the redness so Chickens won't peck. Although it seldom works.

cayenne will also thicken blood and feel really hot on wounds

I've found blukote to be as much or more a of pecking attractant than blood.
