Well we just finished our first bumble foot treatment. Thanks for all the posts and advice. Everything went well and Lucy is doing great.

Not really necessary.
A baby aspirin is cheap and easy to administer so I don’t see the harm in giving one if a chicken has had their foot cut open and dug into. Prey animals hide their pain so it’s not obvious if they are hurting or not.

When I had surgery on my foot this winter I appreciated having some pain relief.

I was wondering about that every thing I’ve watched and read didn’t say anything about aspirin. She is acting fine this morning.
Because you're cutting into the foot, chances of bleeding, etc.
You don't give aspirin when there's a potential for bleeding.

Rarely do you need to administer pain relief for anything.

If the surgery is already done and the hole is close there’s not much chance of bleeding but yes that should be part of the thought process with aspirin.

As far as using pain relievers, you are speaking against the modern recommendations from veterinarians for bumble foot and other injuries that chickens get. They do feel pain just like other living creatures with a nervous system. Many medications also help with swelling which is common after injury.

Links to the modern Veterinarian recommendations?
I would like to read the material, always something new to learn.

Here is one site off the top of my bookmarks, in the Treatment section it says that antibiotics and pain management are necessary.

Also Bird Vet Melbourne on YouTube sees chickens and other birds at their practice and sometimes goes over the after care for illnesses and injuries including pain relief. I rewatched the (really gross) bumble foot episode and unfortunately they didn’t cover after care for that specific patient. They do mention it on some of the other infection videos but they don’t give specific medication names.

I’ve given a small aspirin dose to the chickens that I’ve done surgery on and never had a problem with extra bleeding, but they have always been relatively small bumbles. If I have to take a chicken in to my vet for it I will be sure to ask what her recommendation is.
