I recently posted a thread on here about my hens foot problems.
It is confirmed she has two (I guess bumble foot pods?) on one foot.
My dad is going to preform the surgery.
I've read tons of articles about bumble foot, but I just want some pro advice.

Going to buy some scalpels from tractor supply to cut into her foot. Do certain scalpels work better?
Any thing I can use to help with pain, infection?
Any other advice on the surgery, healing process and bumble foot prevention would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Agree with @staceyj. Here are a couple of links with info on non-surgical options. Every bird is different depending on how deep it is and how long it's been there. I usually try soaking and wrapping first, if results aren't good, then surgery becomes an option.
Both of these can work if the lesion is not too large or deep, as I said, every case is different. Your attachment is not showing up.

thanks.

My dad doesn't have a set time this week for the procedure. Can you click on the pic attachment now?

That looks like it’s been there for a while. The core might be nice and solid and you might be able to work it out with some persistence.

I’d definitely try soakingtil that scab comes off (easily though) - don’t pick and pick and risk tearing at the good skin around it, which could introduce new germs into the area, expanding the infection.

Yes, good picture. That's a fairly large one, but I don't see lots of swelling, I'd still try soaking and removing first, it may take more than one soak to soften it up. You can also put some decolorized iodine (any drug store or walmart will have it) on it and wrap it up for 24 hours and that will help soften it also for removal. Until you get in there you don't know really how it looks. It may all come out in one piece and that's it, if not you can always decided surgery is needed afterwards.
