Bumble Foot

Make sure the place they land from roosts etc is soft underfoot...I use pine shavings in my coop and deep litter in the run...bandaid probably won't stay on. If you soak with epsom salt first, it may help draw out the infection or at least soften the scab. Vetwrap or stuff like it is available at walmart, most drug stores in the first aid section...I would just wrap it to keep too much dirt from getting in...or keep them confined on a towel or puppy pad till it scabs over properly...

I peeled the scabs off of two, but couldn't find a corn. Is this bad?
I went ahead and soaked before and after peeling it off, and used a cotton biscuit and the surgical tape to hold it there.
How often do I soak?

Did you squeeze the foot like you are trying to pop a really nasty zit that doesn't want to pop?

No. But they are getting better. The hen pictured has almost no scab, and I don't think she needs soaked anymore.

With the other poor hen I was a bit more vigorous in my digging for a corn :sick and she is taking longer to heal. As I said, no corn was found.
