Bumble foot

After much research I came to the conclusion
That one of my hens had bumble foot on one toe

After gathering all the requirements for surgery and cleaning
The foot I began my first attempt at this procedure. Although she was relatively calm when I squeezed the toe she delivered a partially formed egg!

To the point of my post and question, the only thing that came out was a small white seed and a little blood. Additional squeezing did nothing but cause pain.
What now?

That "white seed" you state in your post was the kernel causing the bumblefoot....good for you!! Sounds like you did a great job. Follow the "after surgery" instructions keeping it clean and bandaged well...."you done good!!"

Day three follow up...
I removed the vet wrap and gauze and the swelling had actually increased. So, with a sterile needle and tweezers I discover a second, larger kernel, and this time accompanied with a huge amount of white puss.

My observations.....

This is not for the faint of heart!
You really need someone to assist you especially in the bandaging
It is apparently stressful and painful for the bird

My hope is that I got it all out and won't have to repeat!!!!

Sorry for not replying sooner...puter probs today! Just wanted to say that from what you say you have now gotten the whole thing out...the main kernel is almost ALways followed by a large amount of white puss....good for you!! You did it! And yes, it's not for the faint of heart and should always be done with a second pair of hands, if for anything else for moral support.

Bravo to you kiddo.....all the very best and let us know how she's getting along as her healing progresses!
