Hi duck has huge swollen bumble. Got the scab off can not see the curd or anything like it. Soaked it well used vet ricin. Then tonight soaked it again and cut the fleshy part in half thinking the curly stuff was under there. Do I cut allthat fleshy stuff off. It bleed so much finally got it to stop. First sprayed withvetricynthen packed with triple sporran put a pressure dressing noit wrapped it.keeping her Ina pen for tonight. Doi cut all of that off tomorrow it is like a bight koi flesh like a knowwill take pucture tomorrow.thanks.ihave read manyposts alsostartedher onpenG

I would not cut any more.

If there is a way to get to a vet, I would do that.

At this point, I would start the duck on oral antibiotics - duramycin 10 is probably what I would use.

I would keep her in a clean pen - not let the foot get wet, and I would rinse it four times a day with saline solution.

Can you get the duck to a vet?

Bumble takes several days of treatment... sounds like you have one similar to the one I just dealt with... there is a core somewhere in there, the swollen tissue is probably hiding it... don't tear out the tissue... soak the foot in warm water with epsom salt helps best, just don't let the duck drink it... it's a laxative and will give them awful diarrhea...

The core may not be curly/stringy but a hard whitish nodule... it also may be very hard to pull out, mine was... I was getting pus chunks out of mine for days before I found the core...

Amiga, I think penG is an oral antibiotic, sounds like that should help...

PenG sounds good to me - I am not an antibiotic expert, I know a number of people have successfully used duramycin when the bumblefoot was pretty advanced. Thanks for your insight.

I'll put Duramycin in my mental file... good to know, thanks! If I remember correctly, PenG is a penicillin antibiotic so I think it might be better?? I use a bit stouter stuff on my Calls, but they're ornamentals...
