Hello fellow chicken peeps!

I need some advice regarding my hen with a weird bumblefoot sore on her foot pad.

I have given her multiple foot soaks, but the scab doesn’t appear to be a normal scab pulling out.

I’m beginning to think it’s time to get a biopsy punch and do surgery. Thoughts?

Thanks everyone 🍳🐣

I would say it's definitely time for cutting both those out. Have Vetericyn or iodine or Blu-Kote on hand, in addition to bandages, is what I recommend.

Have you removed bumblefoot before?

I would soak it really well, get it as soft as possible, and then try to pull/pry it off and see what is underneath. Sometimes when you remove the scab/lesion from the top you can squeeze and manipulate and remove any pus inside. Alternately you can apply decolorized iodine (not the same as betadine, most pharmacies carry it in the first aid section) and wrap the foot over night, that will also soften it up for removal. I only cut after all other things have been tried. For some kinds of bumblefoot, there is no solid core of pus and a drawing salve or sugardine can be used to help get rid of the infection.
More on sugardine at the link below, and another on non -surgical treatment.
