Bumblefoot and drawing salve?

This is very interesting. It would certainly be far easier for the chicken keeper than surgery (especially when there are multiple birds with infections), and far less stressful for the birds. I will definitely pick some up at the drug store to have on hand. Thank you for the suggestion!

I did find Prid, it was at Wal-mart. It was on the shelves near the bandages. I've been putting it on Meggie's foot every other day when I redo the soak and re-bandage.

Anyone know how long we should try this, it still doesn't seem to bother her, before we get this cut out? (We don't normally fret over vet bills but we just had a $1200 bill for a dog we ended up having to put down).

Never heard of Icthamol (is it what people refer to a black salve?) but I continue to make drawing salve from an old family recipe.

Yes it is, drawing salve, great product. My grandparents always used it on horses, goats, dogs etc.

I have never had bumblefoot but have been reading alot about it. For you old-timers (no offense) out there, has anyone ever tried a drawing salve? I grew up with a home-made drawing salve (recipe passed down for generations) that I think would be perfect for this problem. For those of you who are not familiar with a drawing salve/black salve, it "draws" out any foreign object in the body... ie. splinter, infection, bee sting or bug bite poison, glass sliver, cat-fish spine, etc., etc.

Opinion, anyone?
I have been on the hunt for a good recipe for a salve. I normally use itch. But it is getting hard to find. So best to make my own.
