Bumblefoot and......? Urgent!

As always, please keep us posted! Ducks really can bounce back - we just need to watch closely because they also hide illness and injury so well. Gosh I wish they could tell us sooner when things aren't right.

There's always something to learn.
Did not know about clear iodine. Will have to tuck that one away in my little brain somewhere.

Glad to hear she is improving.

My dad (he's a nurse) just gave me some stuff they use in the hospital for this kind of stuff. It has iodine and some other stuff, but no painkiller. He said it will form a scab! And it's free. Thank you for everything, and I will keep you posted!

That is what the clear iodine is . . . I think it has some ammonium compound . . . I am guessing that helps the iodine cross into the skin and into the infected stuff.

The clear iodine method is - soak the foot for at least half an hour (some use Epsom salt water) - apply a few drops of clear iodine to the center of the bumble, let dry - keep the duck out of water for several days (some may not do this) - a scab should form, then soak the foot well again, and try pealing the edge of the scab. It may come off, lifting the pus out with it. If it doesn't, or not all the yuck comes out, rinse well, apply a few more drops of clear iodine, and wait a few more days.

I would use topical antibiotic ointment three times a day and one application right before bedtime. No painkiller. If it still looks infected after a couple of days I would consider oral antibiotics.
