Bumblefoot/Frostbite/Injury/Something else? Photos

Her general look says something else is going on besides her feet. At least, that's what I'd think if she was here at my place. Her comb is shrunken and she looks just puny. Is she laying?

No. She should be coming into her first lay right now. She is VERY thin on the breastbone. I'm worried about her. She has a small area on her comb that is white- not like frostbite just very dry and completely devoid of color. Will post a pic of it later, could be frostnip I guess which would give more credence to the diagnosis of frostbite for her foot.

About to research dosing on the Penicillin... how do you dose it? How long do I need to warm it out of the fridge before injection?

Does she act like she is in pain? Coccidiosis can get them up to 9 months old or so.

I had suspected Cocci first before I saw her foot. It could be both. I know it's not good to keep switching treatments though... can I give the Corrid water at the same time as the Pen G injections?

Thanks for the Pen G dosing.

ETA she was in obvious pain the first two days due to her foot. Doesn't seem to be in much pain now that the swelling has gone down just very lethargic.

Corid is a mild medicine but it may not be good to give them both.

Treated foot is the one on the left.

Treated foot is the one on the right. Swelling is noticeably better.

she may have bee statue standing in the snow and hurt her feed. Hopefully the Medicine will work and she will be chipper again in a couple of days!

I don't think just frostbite. The comb being so shrunken just says something else is going on to me. I certainly could be wrong, Rinda, and I can't say what the other thing would be exactly. If she hasn't even begun laying, there may be something that her approaching that time has triggered. This is what is so hard, diagnosing things on the web when there could be multiple problems and confusing symptoms.

I had a Delaware pullet who appeared perfectly healthy, had not laid her first egg yet. Found her with her heart racing one afternoon. Took her in the house and there was no other symptom except she had a fast heartbeat and was panting. She died the next day. Opened her up and found her heart had just imploded, probably a defect that made it like a time bomb when the stress of coming into lay triggered it. SO many things can happen to layers.
