Hello everyone- I am dealing with my first case of bumblefoot. We have had an exceptionally rainy year (almost everyday for 2 months) and although the girls have a dry place inside and outside the coop, they would still go scratch around in the mud between showers. I think between the mud and a little free ranging on a few sunny days, this girl got our first case.
I caught it fairly early on, no limping, very little swelling, just happened to find the classic black scab on a routine inspection. When I picked it off there was a little white part attached to the scab (infection) and I squeezed for a while but nothing else came out. Soaked in Epsom salt for several days, sprayed with Vetericyn and rewrapped everyday for about a week. No real improvement so I got PRID and tried re cutting it open yesterday but still couldn't squeeze anything out.... And she bled... A lot!
I do have some fish antibiotics (amoxicillin) I started her on yesterday due to the redness around it. There is no heat, so that's a plus!
Is this white stuff scar tissue, infection pieces, or just what the healing looks like?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you!
