This has been going on for quite sometime since late last summer/early fall. There is a scab on the bottom of my roosters foot that has almost disappeared but came back a couple of times. I could never find a kernel in his foot. This is the most recent wound after removing the scab that came back. There is no odor or puss that I can see. There was a new flat smooth black scab over this wound the very next day. Vet just continues to say soak in Epsom salts bath and bandage, which I do. I also spray vetericin and put on tao ointment. I cannot understand why this is happening or what else to do. The vet kinda brushes me off. In the past, I have quit bandaging before it is completely healed due to the irritation the vet wrap seems to cause on the rest of his foot. Is this where I am going wrong? He does not jump down off high places or roost.

if the vetwrap causes irritation, then make sure it doesn't touch his skin. You need more gauze wrapped around first. I've had success with magnesium sulphate to draw out any infection. I think it works similarly to betadine and sugar.

And yes to leaving it on for 2-3 days. I also make a boot made out of strips of duct tape over the bandage in the winter when it's wet ground.

Try Tricide Neo. I have used it several times, as have others here. It works well with bacterial infections like Bumblefoot. It's an antibiotic powder originally developed for Koi and Goldfish, who sometimes suffer from Septic fin infections. You mix it with DISTILLED, not tap water, pour just enough to cover the affected birds feet, and hold them there for 5 minutes each day. THey usually start to like it after a day or two. reat them once a day for a week. A really bad infection might require daily for three weeks. If it's successful the lesion will clear up quickly. The solution will only keep for a week, so never mix up more than you need. I have always purchased it at Koi Acres, at https://www.koiacres.com.

Try to find out how he injured his foot. Anything sharp in the coop or run or pasture needs to be removed. They can also develop Bumblefoot from hopping off perches over 18 inches, which was my problem.
