My drake, Koi, has Bumble foot. he was inside for a week, while his foot was wrapped. i couldn't keep his feet dry as he would spill water or step in a poop pile and his wrapping would always get dirty eventually. i treated his feet, but they were pretty big. i put him back outside, but i checked his feet today and his bumbles look bigger on the foot i didnt pull the scab off of because it was not ready. can i put mats in his pen as he is separated with his brother to give my 2 girls and 2 young drakes peace (they wont stay together when the boys mature the girls will be separated). should i do the soacking again and try to pull the scab off? i realize that i put back outside too early, but i cant keep him inside. how should i have his water as his waterer is a 2ftx2ftx2ft tub that he likes to bathe in? i am gone during the day so i cant refill a smaller bowl. sorry that i had to ask as there are lots of posts on this already.

A deep bucket will work for water. I get my buckets from the grocery store bakery they come with icing in them and have lids then just cut a head size hole and they can't splash all the water out. As for the bumble you need to keep working on it and get that infection out before it goes into bone and blood. Keep soaking until you can

easily pull off the scab then pick the infection out with sterile tweezers. pack the hole with antibiotic ointment and wrap.

The scab is hard for me to pull off. I have short nails though so that may be a problem. The tweezers have disappeared, so should I soak again or try to pull more or wait till tomorrow

How should I approach this? The scab is not really one big piece that is all together, instead if i pull at it the piece I’m am pulling comes of, not the whole thing. His old owner didn’t even know what bumble foot was - no hate to the owner she is awesome just didn’t know about it- so it was advanced when I got him. All the posts I see are little round scabbed with a chunk of thick pus underneath, but when I peeled one of the scabs off -with great difficulty- there was no pus. I’ve seen people cut around it and take a little triangle out but his seems to big for that. What should I do? Please help

I had a pekin with a bad bumble in that spot - here is a link to my original thread if you want to see some pictures and get some ideas: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/should-i-pull-this-scab-off.1415545/

I also didn't have that experience where you just pull the scab and the infection is attached. I think I did take the scab off in little pieces, kept packing it with triple antibiotic ointment, and tried just about everything. Eventually I did get the infection, but for months a scab kept occurring.

In this thread I posted photos of how I wrap my duck's foot when she had a bumble in the same spot. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/another-bumblefoot-question.1511600/#post-25411069

Treat it, put clean gauze over it, then wrap with vet wrap. Just keep it dry as possible, and after it scabs over, give your duck a chance to swim, then treat and wrap and keep dry again. It might take you many times of repeating this process. I worked on and off with this duck for almost 9 months. Hopefully yours won't take that long - my duck was probably a one-off.

When you pulled off the scab was there a hole under just pack it with triple antibiotic or another type of antibiotic ointment. You might want to put him on an antibiotic orally.
This will give you info on meds and where to buy.

You can also try some drawing ointment PRID is one. Not sure at this stage it will help.
The only prid that I can find has pain killers, and I think I just need to pull off the scab and try to get everything out. I am filling the bath for a last soak before I start, will post pics of wound after I pull scab off

I am going to order some, do I force feed or water I guess the ointment or do I put it in his water? If so, should I remove his brother so he doesn’t drink it to?
