Bumblefoot question

I have a year old white Leghorn hen with what I believe to be bumblefoot (looks exactly like it) in between her middle and left toe (not on the bottom of the foot) i’ve left it alone for about 5-7 days and I honestly think it’s gotten smaller/better. Should I soak it and try to get the infection out? Or should I leave it alone and see if it goes away completely? Should I start her on an antibiotic? I have Tylan and Oxytetracycline.

I usually leave them alone unless they look infected(red) or it is seriously impeding their mobility.

I was told that bumblefoot won't go away without treatment but I soaked my hen in a epsom salt bath a few days in a row and saw such significant improvement that I decided not to cut and she healed perfectly fine. It was also cold at the time and I even thought maybe the cold frost on the grass may have helped reduce the swelling as she healed? Anyway, she's perfectly fine now. Good luck with your hen!

I’ll definitely get some in the morning. She isn’t limping or not walking she gets around normally i’ll double check but no obvious signs of infection. I heard they can die from bumblefoot is this true?

I heard they can die from bumblefoot is this true?

Bumble foot is a staph infection in a foot wound...the infection could possibly get bad enough to kill the bird....but that is extreme and rare, so don't over-react.

Since it’s an infection is an antibiotic needed?
