For a long time I did not keep her apart, and none of the other flock got it. I am not sure if she stepped on a sticker or what - we have a lot of nasty stickery plants here in the desert. The only reason I keep her apart now, she cannot "get away" quick enough from young cockerels - plus she likes the individual attention from me - silly girl. She has a bird cage in the coop she sleeps in at night and a run all to herself during the day - she can see all the other chickens just cannot get to them or the cockerels to her
I eat her eggs - there is nothing wrong with them - as long as you are not giving her antibiotics.
I have read alot about it, and the bird needs a wound on their foot for the infection to enter - seems to be the way a bird gets bumblefoot.
