One of my laying hens has a swollen foot, on the bottom and a little bit between the toes. There is no scab or abscess. Right now we have it wrapped it with antibiotic cream. Do i need to do “surgery” even though there isn’t a visible scab. After doing research, it seems to be that i need to drain it and remove an abscess? However there is no visible one? How can I help my hen?

Strictly speaking, that's pododermatitis which is basically the same thing as Bumblefoot, but its referred to as that when there is no core, or ulceration on the feet. Just swelling.

A vet would probably prescribe an antibiotic along with an NSAID, you could probably just get away with using an antibiotic like Enrofloxcin, Cephalexin, or Amoxicillin to name a few, these can be obtained online without a prescription in a fish/bird form. Along with that, keep her on dry, clean, soft bedding. After your through with the antibiotics, it may need to sliced then bandaged.

Thank you so much for your information! Do you mean if the antibiotics don’t work to then slice and bandage?
