Please help me identify if my hen has bumblefoot! I noticed my hen laying around more and not getting up as much in the last day. When standing up she struggles like her feet are hurting. I found a small brown scab as well as red patches. I soaked her feet Epsom salt and sprayed Vetericyn twice today.
I have looked up bumblefoot and watched videos but I see nothing to cut out. Can a mild case cause pain? Attached is some photos of her feet. Thanks for any advice!

That does look like it could be the start of bumblefoot, the spot in the middle of her foot. There appears to be a scab on a toe as well. Have you noticed any lice or mites? Maybe in the coop if not on the bird? There might be more than one issue. Red mites come out at night ad suck their blood, if you run your hand across the roost and it comes away with red smears that's a concern but I'd look her over really well. The others too.

If it's bumblefoot there you may have caught it fairly early. That almost looks like a bruise though...can you tell if that spot was ever scabbed over?

It looks like bumblefoot to me, but you caught it very early. I would suggest trying this, and you will probably only need to do it ounce or twice every 4-5 days.

I would than, apply Vetrycin on top of the plug, the plug is the scab or cut on her foot that is causing the bumblefoot, cover it in a bit of cotton ball, or cotton pad, and wrap it in vet wrap, preferably no chew. Continue to check your ducks foot every other day, eventually the vetrycin will loosen the plug and you can remove it. If the plug does come out there will be a hole in your ducks pad, either squirt Vetrycin or Neosporin in the hole, than wrap tightly with vet wrap, and secure with a piece of duck tape.
PS. You do not need to soak her foot ever time. If you are applying Vetrycin to the plug on her toe than each time, see if it is any looser, eventually the plug will pick off like scab. you should see improvement. If the plug is removed, than each time check for a scab that might form. Pick it off and reapply Vetrycin or Neosporin. If you don't have Vetrycin, you can purchase it from amazon in two day shipping.
Hope this helps, and good luck,
Avery

Hi, thank you for your reply. The tiny spot was stabbed over. I removed it. I have not noticed any lice or mites. But I will check in the coop tonight like you suggested. No other chickens feet are acting sore.

Thank you! I have removed the small scab and feel no hard piece in her foot pad. I have soaked in Epsom salt and sprayed Vetericyn on. Did not wrap it tho because it is such a tiny spot. But maybe I will try wrapping.
