Hi everyone-I was trying to find my posts or thread about my duck’s foot from several weeks ago but can’t find it. Had photo of large black scab on her foot. Long story short, I think she has Bumblefoot and I thought we ruled that out on here because no one seemed to think it was. I found posts that others had or is having similar issues. So, I think I need to do a surgery and not sure how to go about digging in her foot to get bad stuff out without hurting her. I can see hole where thorn was pulled out on bottom and on top on side of her toe is where large scab was pulled off with a small stringy looking tissue hanging from it.
I’ve found some instructions online and some posts on what others did. Does anyone have a better way to instruct me on how to attempt this?I’m nervous about cutting on her myself so any advice is really appreciated.
She’s really lame as it is and foot and leg swollen. I’ve attached a few pics I took this morning of top and bottom of foot in hopes you can see what I’m dealing with. Pictures are not that great and tried to clean foot best as could.
Thank you for your time.
Also, I am armed with vetwraps, vetricyn poultry care spray, and Epsom salt poultice.

I could try to clean her foot better and take more pictures. I just learned this morning after reading more up on the posts that mud could cause Bumblefoot. I had no idea. She had a thorn which I had to pull out which started all these problems. We’ve been trying to fix this issue for about 2 months now and I am thinking more that it is indeed Bumblefoot. Even had X-ray done and doesn’t show any foreign objects or anything broken. The bird vet over an hour away is not an option for me. Over$500 bill and over an hour away.
Will send pics as soon as can. Thank you.

are these pictures better? I didn’t have help so did best I could. Let me know if need better ones. I’ll do more either tonight or tomorrow.
On the bottom of foot if blow up pic a little you should see where thorn hole is. On top on middle toe on side of joint you should be able to see pale spot where scab was. And can see where it’s swollen at ‘ankle’ area. Hope this helps.

You might want to put her on an antibiotic since the ankle is swollen. Baytril is a good one you can order on line. Soaking In warm Epsom salt water the applying the Epsom salt poultice and wrapping can help but looking at the picture I’d say there maybe infection in the ankle area

She was on antibiotic from vet for couple of weeks for the swollen and infection. Didn’t seem to do much. I think maybe there is pus or some junk in there that needs to come out?? I tried to get more antibiotic and inflammatory med from the vet but she was like if it’s not any better from taking it before then no need to do more it wouldn’t do any better. So not sure what to do from here.
Baytril will take about a week to arrive so may do that anyway.

Sorry I didn’t see you had her on an antibiotic. Anytime I’ve had a bumble here I have had to open it up and get the infection out. My duck was on an antibiotic also but not Baytril the vet put her on amoxicillin and it didn’t help after I got the kernel out I did finish the antibiotic though. I keep Baytril on hand now just in case.

So there’s likely a kernel I need to get out? How do I know where and what I’m looking for? I have no clue what I’m doing. I don’t want to make things worse and cause her more pain. I couldn’t remember name of med vet gave me that I was giving her for inflammation and infection and wanted to share that it was Meloxidyl. She had also given her a shot of antibiotic that I think she said was good for at least a week or so. That was over a month or so ago. I’ve been struggling with what to do, bugging the vet, and trying to figure out what was wrong with her on my own when all else was for naught.

There is usually a kernel [a hard pus ball] or just thick pus once it is open. Not being there makes it hard for us to tell you what your dealing with. Mostly on my chickens there is a scab I gently pull it off and sometimes the bumble will come off with the scab and sometimes I have to work on it to get the thick pus out. With my duck she had a hard round kernel in her foot no scab so I had to take a scalpel and make a small slit and pop it out. Since it looks like there could be an infection in the ankle area I would be hesitant to open it up. What has the vet said about the ankle? That was the reason I mentioned Baytril because it might get to the ankle area. What about drawing some of the fluid out and trying to find out exactly what bacteria it is? Did the vet mention this?
