My New Hamshires were hatchery chicks that I bought 7 months ago. I trimmed the 26 chicks down to 10 hens and 1 roo. A few of the hens just started laying (only 3 at the moment). Last night I went out to check on my resent hatch which I have put into a brooder located on a wall in the New Hampshire's coop. I found one of my hens under a roost dead.
. She had no marks on her and None of my chickens have shown any signs of sickness so it makes me wonder if she could have had a problem with an egg breaking inside her. Its just a bummer to lose a hen that was just about to lay!!
