bumps on beaks

Here is Daisy, who had a very severe case of pox. It took two weeks to clear, and I had to hand feed and water her because both of her eyes were scabbed over. This is after the pox had popped and pussed and was on it's way to healing. She fully recovered.
So, hang in there... keep those pox moist and they will get better!

Oh please please please post an updated pic of poor Daisy ASAP! You're going to scare the dootie out of the OP.

Daisy's picture goes to show that the pox can be much worse! Those little guys will be just fine with some TLC. Here is a picture of Daisy after she recovered, just so nobody loses sleep!

(I did lose her to a head injury, though.

Thanks! That gives me hope.

I just put bag balm on all of the bumps on their beaks. They tried to wipe it off right away but hopefully it'll help. They are so scared of me (and the kids) holding them, I hope the trauma doesn't make it worse.

Only 1 of the 4 seems really weak and like it's not growing. I hope they can recover and thrive after all.

Try giving the weak one some sugar water or Pedialite.
Yes, they will try to wipe it off and they will probably end up with a face full of shavings, but keep the pox moist with the Bag Balm and they should be fine.

3 of the chickens seem to be happy and growing despite the pox (or whatever it is). The 4th is still very small and weak, doesn't move around much and is very easy to catch. I would like to give it some sugar but I don't know how to do it--the beak is so small that I can't really pry it open. When I dropped some sugar water droplets on its beak I'm not sure anything went inside. Is there a special strategy for this? Thanks!

Nothing has changed. The 3 are still seeming quite chipper and acting more and more like chickens which is very fun to watch. I can't wait until I can enjoy them instead of just worrying about them. Their enormous bumps are still there, no change at all. The 4th one is still very sickly, weak, and tiny. Everytime I go out to check on them I fear that it'll be dead. So far, it's hanging in there. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I spoke with the farmer this evening who gave me the chicks and he is experiencing no problems with his chickens and has never heard of a situation like mine. Very strange. He did say that it's probalby not a good idea that I have the chicks in the garage--they should be experiencing a lot more sunshine, apparently.

I'll keep you posted...
