Bunnies are about to hop into my life

Oh, I have trees!

There's some nice shade right over my side patio. Currently, the Infirmary coop is set up there, but there's plenty of space for a hutch, too.

I was worrying because, with a freely ranging flock, you know I have NO grass in which rabbits can gambol. They don't eat the periwinkle ground cover all that much, but the ducks forage there for sluggy things. And there's a large patch of periwinkle around two sides of the patio.

I guess lion head rabbits are even more suited to the cold, with those lovely fur coats.

Mine have all blown their coats and look as straggly as my moulting chickens. Still they hold up better than I expected.

Make sure you get them some Thimothy hay. You want to make sure they have plenty. Also something to chew on and it can be a piece of branch if you have one. Haven't slept yet, so I'm too fuzzy to remember which ones not to use. LOL

I have a doe that should kendle soon. I have a box in with her now, because she's an escape artist and I have her penned right next to the buck I was breeding her to. They did nothing when I was trying for kits, but she's getting a little round in the belly now. Then again maybe rabbits take after their owners too.

I have all of mine outside. All 11 of them. I provide free-choice hay (horse quality, same thing I feed my horses) branches to chew on, decent quality pellets once a day and water of course. I have always heard that rabbit pellets contain enough salt and minerals for them to get by on so never have bothered adding anything like that although I know some owners like to.

Mine have never seemed to suffer from the cold or heat and in NYS we get a variety of temps. I have even had babies born in the winter with no ill side effects or any heat source.

A pic of some kits that were about 6 weeks old just a few weeks ago. Keep in mind that mine are very poor pet quality and may look nothing like yours if they are better quality.

Thanks, y'all!

As to "quality" I have no clue about what makes a good lion head rabbit or not. The pictures I was shown are freaking adorable! Apparently the buck is currently a free range fella some of the time because the guy willing to give them to me said the buck loves to wander around outside but always comes back... To the "condo" his dad built for the rabbits, with an upstairs and downstairs. Mama nested upstairs... He'd like to give the condo to me too, but apparently his dad went all out building it and it would take a pick-up to move it. It won't fit in my RAV4, he said.

I am wracking my brain to figure out how to transport it from Fresno up to my home in the foothills.
