Our first kits have gotten big and wandered out of the nest box on their own today.

My chocolate's also had their first kits which are probably a chocolate and a lilac

you have no problem in touching them that early?

Most does don't care if you handle them and even if they do care they will usually just express their displeasure through noise or attacking the person reaching in their cage. You just have to make sure there is nothing harmful on your hands because kits are very sensitive that young. Some does will kill kits accidentally or on purpose from stress if they don't feel the location is safe enough but that has nothing to do with the actual handling of the kits. It's just activity around or in their cage that stresses them too much.

A lilac is the diluted version of chocolate so you would need a chocolate base not black, no agouti (castor, opal, lynx, etc...), no tan pattern (otters, tans, and martins), and the dilute gene. Dilute is what turns black to blue and castor to opal. These younger 2 kits are from 2 chocolates who carry dilute. It's recessive so both parents need it. Even if one parent is a lilac (or blue, opal) the other has to at least carry the gene. Chocolate is also recessive so if you are breeding blacks or blues both parents have to at least carry chocolate or you will only get blacks or blues. My chocolate doe and buck also both carry either rew or himi but this kit doesn't look pink enough to be either of those. I'm crossing my fingers for one of them to have himi cause I don't really like rew.

Akane cute kits, what is lilac color look like. We had three batches of kits this year it's alot of work but well worth it. Do you sell the rabbits or show them?

These 2 batches are our first kits and we are going to our first show tomorrow. My current plan is to breed my 3 does to the chocolate buck and keep a doe kit from each and then breed them to the blue buck and keep a doe from each. After that we'll start sorting out what to keep, what we want to breed back to one of those 2 bucks, what needs to be sold, and what needs to be added to make the next generation. That's about 6 months from now and farther ahead than I usually plan.

So far kits aren't too much work but I did end up taking the chocolate doe to the vet for pain killers because her genitals were still very swollen 24 hours after giving birth and she was refusing food.
