Any idea on sex? Two have white "collars" around their neck extending to their chest, the other three dont.

A few days ago on a whim I grabbed a 8 foot long piece of 2x2 sawmill lumber and spanned a corner of the turkey yard with it thinking they might like a roost. Go figure they like to sleep on it at night.

Anyways the two with white on their chest make a weep weep weep sound which sounds a lot like wild turkey hen. The other three have a differnet sound.

154 days old now - it's amazing how time flies. Anyways... i lost one hen and i'm not sure why. But other than that ive had very few problems, that couldnt be solved with home remedies.

Im very pleased with my burbon red turkeys, they are just starting to get vocal and will gobble, cluck and cooo at me if i make a loud noise. There are 2 toms/jakes and 2 hens. I'm m going to have one tom for Thanksgiving dinner and care for the other tom and 2 hens throughout the winter with hopes that they will mate and brood chicks in the early spring.

Your birds look beautiful. I just picked up my first turkeys about three weeks ago. They are about 7 or 8 weeks old now. I have a mix of standard bronze, narragansetts and bourbons. Occasionally I will catch a couple of them strutting around and some of them have started to gobble. I think they are turning out to be some pretty cool birds. I have one that I think is a jake that likes to follow me around and will perch on my arm.

I really like turkeys they are just too cool to watch... and they have a personality about them. One of my hens does the samething to me. And they all love my 1 1/2 year old grand daughter.

Im quite envious of you. It was a toss up between burbon reds or narragansetts for me. I just happened to find 1 week old burbon reds for $5.00 a chick so i bought all the lady had left. I really think i may build another yard next spring and get some narragansetts also.

I had originally only planned on getting the bronze when I ordered from a breeder late last winter. The more research I did, the more I felt that I wanted multiple breeds. When I went to pick them up, Jackie had a few extras of the Narries and Bourbons, so I picked those up too. I was a little worried about adding them because I've heard how difficult it can be to keep them alive compared to chickens, but they have been easy so far.

I did have a few problems with mine. I believe once it was worms and i mixed in 1 TBS of DE per turkey to their feed twice in a row and it cleared up. The second problem was much worse i believe it was blackhead. After giving the Tom chyanne pepper water in a eye dropper for a week out of a whim i tried habenro and it worked. It worked so well i sprinkled dried habenro pepper over their food and they all eat it up. Havd not had a problem since. The turkey toms love my granddaughter, she can get them to talk, me? Well not so much...

Turkeys are over 6 months old now and just about ready to eat. I have two hens and two toms, one tom is named Thanksgiving The "plan" is to overwinter 1 tom and 2 hens with hopes the hens will brood some chicks come feb or Mar.

Grand daughters are just too cute "there's a chicky right there"
