Burned area - is this okay for chicken coop placement?

The area we are thinking of using for our coop is where our old burn pile was. The last fire was last year, so it's not been burned recently. We have a small makeshift coop from a kit for now - and are planning on using sand. We are going to enlarge the pen area though and so they will be walking over where the old ash and such was. It's been cleared out but I heard that burning sterilizes the top 4-6 inches of soil. With this cause a problem (health wise) for them pecking and such?

Any advice is appreciated

it shouldn't. They may peck at and eat some of the ashes, but it won't hurt them.
