Hi, my hen's egg shells have been paper thin lately so I've been trying to get extra Calcium into her. She's just had a burst egg inside her which I managed to get it out but I'm worried there might still be some yolk inside, any advice on what I need to do? Thanks

Anybody know why my chickens (hens) have watery poop? Litterly liquid?? Please help. They seem healthy though?

She made it, so she can probably un-make it (absorb it.) Her next egg should clean out the track. Good job on giving her more calcium.
Sadly the next egg won't just clean it out;

Research Egg Yolk Pertitonitis....

How old are they and when is the last time you had their poop checked by a vet for worm loads?

Hi @Donna9 :frow Welcome To BYC

How is your hen doing?

I'm glad you were able to get the shell out. It's possible there may be yolk left inside. Hopefully she will be able to expel that on out.

Giving the extra calcium was very good, you may want to provide her with some poultry vitamins if she seems a bit droopy.
Sometimes a soak in epsom salts can also get things moving as well. A one time laying glitch like a soft shell egg breaking, may not be too bad as long as she still continues to lay more eggs.

You may want to supplement her calcium by giving 1/2tab daily of Caltrate (or store brand) for a couple of weeks or until she starts laying harder shelled eggs. Limit treats to no more than 5-10% of her daily intake and make oyster shell available free choice.

Sometimes even with good food and supplements a hen may have not be able to absorb the nutrients she needs or she may have shell gland disorder and will continue to have problems. Do the best you can.

Thanks for this information I gave her 1/2 Caltrate tab, sat her in warm water and managed to get the shell and egg out, she's now running round with the other chooks and looks happy again :)
