Bushes/Plants For Ducks

Last year my ducks ate my Peppermint bushes and a while later they uprooted and consumed our tomato plants whole. In General plant life has very little chance of survival with my ducks, even the grass is struggling to grow back…
This year i am planning to plant some Ribes shrubs into duck county. Black/Red/White currant shrubs will provide cover and fresh fruits for the ducks - if they survive long enough.

I have a page on it, but it is in Dutch...(making a reminder to translate it in English) But I don't think the calla lilly (Aronskelk/araceae) is an safe plant. As I recall. All kind of lilly's and kelk's, orchids and irisses aren't.

With grasses you are often safe. They are often also sturdy. So they can can handle some duck-shenannigans. :)

Sidenote; If you can eat it it is often safe when in doubt.
Told ya! :frow

When I first got my ducks I was told to put them in the garden. Don't do that if you want to eat what you are growing. They will trample and eat everything.

I think liriope (we call it monkey grass) is one of the best ideas. I don't think it's possible to kill that even if you try! The grass that I had to weed wack inside their run last year Is almost all gone. I blocked off most of their outer run to see if I can get the grass to grow in there and it's doing pretty well so far. I'm going to keep them out of it as long as possible but it is surrounding my Leyland cypress trees that they love to get under in the summer for shade so I'll have to let them back in that part once it gets hot.
