Has anyone ever had.heard of a crop busting open? I have a hen that came here with a rather large 'bust'. After doing some Googling, I determined that maybe she had an impacted crop. So we started giving her bread soaked in olive oil and massaging her crop. This morning we found her with a clump of puke hanging off her chest. Immediately we noticed that her crop was normal in appearance again. I wanted to get a better look since she kept plucking at those feathers, which she has been doing for weeks. It appears, and it's hard to see because there is so much (dried food?) in the way, but that her crop has split open and is seeping it's contents out. The stuff is very hard and I really don't know what I am looking at. I hosed as much off as I could to get a better look. No blood or anything but this gunk is coming from there, not puke like I had thought this morning. She seems fine otherwise but what on Earth?! Has anyone heard of this? I've Googled to no avail.

TIA,
Kimberly

I would try to get her to a vet or animal hospital to get the crop sewn up. She make have swallowed something sharp that punctured her crop, or injured it on something sharp. I would not recommend doing the surgery yourself, but there are some threads on here to read about crop surgery where the 2 layers of tissue can be stitched or closed with superglue.
