I'm not sure if this is where this goes, but I have an intersex bird (displaying more rooster as it has underdeveloped ovaries), that has gotten quite aggressive. I have told everyone that I'm not going to deal with mean birds, and that I was just going to cull them. So here we are for me to put my money where my mouth is I guess... 😂 😭

Anyways, I have never butchered a chicken yet (at least not personally, but I have witnessed it). What are some of yalls tips for a clean easy end and processing of the meat for best results? The chicken is about 6 months old at this moment (a little over).

The broomstick method is one way. Some do the cone method but that is better when processing broilers as it is more efficient. You just want a quick and painless death.
Yeah, tbh after some research and asking around, I'm thinking about using the cone method... I plan on using the meat for soup/stalk, and it just makes more sense to me (so less marign of error and waste).

But I have a lady nearby whose done meat chickens for years coming in a few weeks to help me. I'm just scared to do it alone the first time. Don't want to make him suffer more than he has to, or ruin any of the meat.

Until then he is getting the laundry basket cage when we gotta be in there.

This is a link to the sticky section of the meat bird section of this forum. You will find a lot of informative threads of different methods, some including photos. I suggest you browse through this and see what you can pick up. If you have any specific questions just ask.

Thank you so much!!! I have read a few of these, but it def gives me plenty to look up and figure out what works best for me. <3 I should have realized the meat bird section would have something.
