Good morning! Yesterday My 1 year old Brahma was breathing out of her mouth a lot and her butt seemed to pulsating. The temp was 62 degrees so I couldn’t imagine she was overheated and she had plenty of water. I watched her lay her egg and she was pulsating and bearing down pretty hard. But either way, she laid her egg and then went in to eat and get water. Anyway, when my speckled Sussex of the same age went in to lay her egg the Brahma laid on top of her and literally put her wing over her. And wouldn’t let her up. What the heck. Lol. Anyway what the heck is going on. Lol thanks!

Some birds can pant when laying their egg - do you normally watch her lay an egg?

The getting on top of the other one - hard to know what's going on there. Was it like mating behavior, dominance or? A video of this behavior may be insightful.
