Buttercup comb on rooster

I have a rooster came off a black white neck pea comb rooster and a Rhode island red but the baby rooster has a buttercup comb ..why is that. He is a great rooster at 1 year old he hounds atleast ten hens a day all day but ii can't figure where the comb came from

Sounds more like it's a modified pea comb. Crossing a pea and single can produce some weird combs sometimes.
Seems more likely then producing an actual buttercup
comb.
