Anyone living up north (michigan) grow a butterfly garden? I have an area in my back yard that I have slowly taken back from being wild and have grown grass and have made a very peacful area to sit in. I have an area left that is still wild that I'm going to tame in the fall and want to plant a butterfly garden and wondered what I can plant this year.or next. Thanks

butterfly bushes are a great way to attract butterflies to your garden. I have 2 of them here in MA, and they are butterfly magnets. They come back every year. The only thing is if you are going to prune them do it in late spring. If you prune them too early up here in the north they will die and not come back. They are beautiful and easy to grow.

Find your local butterfly society. They can help you identify the native and exotic species they like. Recently, tiger swallowtails were swarming our phlox. Some little orange butterflies are all over the black-eyed Susans. Milkweed, of course.
