Maybe you could make a little (shallow) pond? I’m not sure, hopefully others out there have thoughts.

I wouldn't go for a pond. They'll poop in it, so if you want to do something, you'll need some serious water flow and filtration to keep the water clean.

I don't think there is such a thing. I would try some PVC pipe (maybe 1"?) open at the top with a reservoir underneath with a pump to keep the water circulating. Install a good filter that you change regularly, and the water should stay reasonably clean with good water flow.

I'm having trouble picturing this. Is there a link to something like this that you know of?

For the size of water feature I imagine that's way overkill. You probably want something more like an aquarium pump rather than a pond pump.

I'm thinking of something that's only an inch or two deep, maybe an inch or two wide. The water would flow down from a mini water fall, down the pipe, and down into a buried reservoir. The filter would cover the reservoir (maybe a double layer filter, one to catch larger particles and one for fine particles). The pump would pull the water from the reservoir back to the fountain.

I don't have any pictures since I'm only picturing it in my head, but I could try to draw something up later.
